"A Pacific Colorist"

Susie Y. Anderson has been described as a “Pacific Colorist” with her own distinctive impressionistic style. She is a devoted and prolific oil painter, and is especially passionate about painting "en plein air" (outdoors from life). For her, this approach to creating art not only vitalizes but renews her painting instincts by the many challenges it presents. An acclaimed landscape and beachscape artist, Susie finds broad inspiration for her work ranging from the dramatic sea and landscapes of her home in Hawaii to depicting the light and color of the vast farmlands and snow-covered mountains of her second home in Park City, Utah, and beyond.
Susie is a juried member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) and a Signature Member of the Plein Air Painters of Hawaii (PAPOH). Her paintings are found in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide including the Hilton Hotels, and in the permanent collections of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the City & County of Honolulu. She has won numerous honors for her work including six Best-of-Show awards and two Grumbacher Gold Medal awards in juried competitions and she participates frequently in plein air events and exhibitions. Most recently Susie was honored to have her painting “Up 4th” selected by the publisher and editors of Park City Magazine to grace the cover of their Winter/Spring 2010 edition. Published twice a year, this storied Utah magazine has a rich history of only using fine art on their covers since the first issue in 1977.
Susie moved to Hawaii in 1969 and is a graduate of the University of Southern California holding degrees in fine arts and medical illustration. She worked for the University of Hawaii School of Medicine as a medical illustrator and graphic designer for 14 years, and then formed her own litigation graphics company, Visually Speaking Inc., before becoming a full-time, professional fine artist. Susie studied with acclaimed Hawaii artists Lau Chun and Gloria Foss, and noted mainland artists Kevin MacPherson, Ken Auster, Camille Przewodek, Charles Sovek, Ted Goerschner, Mary Pettis, Steve Songer and Doug Braitwaite.
Susie is represented by Nohea Gallery and Fine Art Associates in Honolulu, Hawaii, and she has also been a member of the Gallery at Ward Centre, Hawaii’s premier cooperative gallery since 2001. Many of Susie's original paintings are also showing on an on-going
basis throughout The Honolulu Club, Oahu's top fitness and spa club. On Maui, Susie is represented by Maui Hands and Kaukini Gallery. Her fine art reproductions can be found in over 20 galleries island wide including the Gift Shop at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and Martin & MacArthur shops. In Park City, Utah, Susie is represented by District Gallery, and her reproductions may be found at Right At Home and Right Angle Framing.
Whether in Hawaii or elsewhere, you might find Susie at inspiring locations — especially at sunrise or sunset — armed with paints and easel, interpreting the day`s remarkable light on canvas. She hopes you enjoy her work and always welcomes your e-mail and phone calls. She invites you to visit her website at www.susieanderson.com to view her most current work.
