I painted this historic scene believing the
Del Monte Plantation would stay open another
two years. Little did I know how prophetic
the title would be, as the operations shuttered
for good only four months later putting more
than 500 people out of work and ending more
than 100 years of proud history in the islands.
This scene depicts one of the many crate trucks
that receives the golden fruit direct
from the fields via the harvester.
Once loaded, it rushes to the packing plant
to off-load the fragrant fruit, then returns
to the field again for another round.
